ADL Double Lip Rotary Shaft Seal

Overview

This advanced radial shaft seal features a standard design compliant with DIN 3760. It includes a tension spring and a protective lip for enhanced durability. The seal’s rubberized outer jacket, made from high-quality NBR or FKM materials, ensures a secure fit. The seal also includes an unalloyed steel stiffening plate (DIN EN 10139) and a spring made from DIN EN 10270-1 spring steel.

Functional Benefits

  • Versatile Sealing: Provides dynamic sealing for rotating shafts regardless of rotation direction, and maintains a robust static seal between the sealing lip and the shaft when stationary.
  • Protective Features: The integrated protective lip effectively prevents dirt accumulation from external sources, enhancing the seal’s longevity.
  • Optimal Fit: The rubberized outer jacket ensures a tight seal with the housing bore, accommodating thermal expansion in light metal housings and maintaining effectiveness even with greater surface roughness or split housings.

Product Advantages

  • Effective Sealing: Ensures excellent static sealing performance with low-viscosity or gaseous media.
  • Dust and Dirt Protection: Provides moderate to medium protection against dust and dirt accumulation, extending the seal’s service life.
  • Durability and Reliability: Offers a long service life and reliable performance in a broad range of moderately demanding industrial applications.
  • Cost-Effective: Balances superior performance with a good price/performance ratio.
  • Quality Manufacturing: Produced by certified external suppliers, ensuring high standards of quality and consistency.

Applications

Ideal for sealing rotating machine elements like shafts, hubs, and axles.

Application Limits

  • Maximum pressure: 0.05 MPa
  • NBR temperature range: -40 to 80°C (short-term up to 100°C), max speed: 10 m/s
  • FKM temperature range: -25 to 200°C, max speed: 34 m/s

Media Resistance

NBR:

  • Resistant to various mineral oils and greases
  • Limited resistance to ozone, weathering, and aging

FKM:

  • Resistant to mineral and synthetic oils, fuels, and flame-retardant fluids
  • Excellent resistance to ozone, weathering, and aging

Design Guidelines

  • Design installation space according to DIN 3760
  • Ensure shaft roundness (tolerance class IT8) and appropriate surface roughness (Rz = 1.0 to 4.0 µm)
  • Shaft surface hardness should be at least 45 HRC
  • Housing surface roughness: Rz = 10 to 20 µm
  • Shaft tolerance zone: ISO h11; housing tolerance zone: ISO H8

Installation Guidelines

  • Thoroughly clean the installation area before assembly
  • Avoid pulling the seal over sharp edges; use a mounting sleeve if necessary
  • Do not grease the seal or installation space
  • Ensure careful, non-tilted installation on the shaft

Storage Advice

  • Store at temperatures below 25°C
  • Avoid direct heat sources, sunlight, and condensation
  • Protect from ozone or ionizing radiation
  • Follow ISO 2230 storage recommendations
